"Flying Scotsman"

The "Flying Scotsman" locomotive has, to date, visited the East Lincolnshire Main Line on four occaisions. The first took place on Saturday October 21st 1967 when it hauled the Lincolnshire Standard Group's "The Standard Flyer". The 11 carriage special ran ftom Grimsby (Town) to London (King's Cross).

Tbe next visit took place on Saturday 21st September 1968 with the Locomotive Club of Great Britain "The East Riding Limited Rail Tour" which, on its outward journey from King's Cross to Hull, ran via the East Lincolnshire Main Line. The schedule for it can be seen here.

Some photos of it as it passed Boston on the middle "through road" can be seen here.

Seen from the signalbox, it passes Bellwater Junction. The "New Line" to Coningsby Junction and Lincoln can be seen diverging to the right.
The third visit on Saturday 29th March 1969 involved "Flying Scotsman" taking a roundabout route from St. Pancras to Cleethorpes, and the return leg to King's  Cross was via Louth, Boston and Grantham. The schedule and tickets for it can be seen here. The tour on this occasion being run by Flying Scotsman Enterprises as their "No.3 Mystery Tour". Somewhat ironically, the locomotive would find itself being shipped to the other Boston a few months later, when it undertook a tour of the USA

Bringing us to present day, the fourth appearance saw the locomotive traverse a section of what remains of the East Lincolnshire Main Line when it worked a railtour to Skegness on Saturday 25th September 2021. The Railway Touring Company "Jolly Fisherman", operated by West Coast Railways, ran from King's Cross via the East Coast Main Line to Peterborough, and thence through Spalding to Sleaford. Here the train reversed and with 60103 now at the rear and 47802 leading all the way to the resort's terminus and the first ever visit of "Flying Scotsman" there.

It is pictured arriving below with 60103 passing the site of the former South Group Sidings.
It departed in the afternoon with 60103 leading and is illustrated passing the site of the former Seacroft Station.
