Havenhouse - as seen on TV

It may not have many trains stopping there now, yet Havenhouse has a claim to fame in making appearances in the third series of the BBC Drama series, Nanny. Filmed in 1982, it was broadcast to the Nation the following year.

The opening shots show passengers leaving the station. A steam train can be heard departing - not seen as it was added by the BBC Sound Effects department. The Up Platform shelter can be seen in the background. Note the white markings. The episode was set in November 1940 and the markings would have provided guidance to the locations of doors and exits during wartime blackouts.
The actress Wendy Craig played the main character. Here we see her leaving the station. The signs on the wall were props, probably replicas.
Wendy is picked up at the station. Through the windscreen we can see the tree lined approach road to Havenhouse.

Another view of the "up" platform. Note the Milk Churns in the background.
More shots of the "up" platform, and glimpses of the former Waiting Room adorned with period advertisements. The poster for the LNER's Silver Jubillee service was an anachronism as this ceased with the outbreak of the War by the time this episode was set.
A brief glimpse of the Signalbox can be seen on the top right.
On the up platform on Saturday 26th July 1986. The milk churns seen in the earlier photo were left behind by the Production Crew. The white markings are still evident and the paintwork looking good five years after filming. Two class 114 diesel multiple units pass on a local service to Nottingham. In the second photo taken further down the same platform, a class 31 passes with a Saturday only through service to Leeds. The signalbox and Great Northern Somersault signal were removed after the crossing was automated on 13th March 1989.
A more recent view of the former Up Platform Waiting Room. Although the milk churns have long since gone, the now faded white markings can just be made out around the doorway and on the corner of the building. Similarly with the Down Platform doorway in the second photo.
